Haiku Monday: Excalibur

Excalibur rule:
To defend what can become
Raise your swords in might!

Twelfth year  Merlin dreams;
Wiseman. Protector. Legend.
But, I loved Arthur.

My dreams expanded
When Sean became King Arthur.
Excalibur nights!

I loved the Mary Stewart Merlin books! Highly underrated in the genre. My favorite movie treatment was John Boorman's Excalibur. Beautifully shot.

"To defend what can become" - I like that. That sums up Camelot.
And I'm with Moi on John Boorman's Excalibur. I love that movie even though they all have Candian accents.

"You and the land are one - eh."

Boxer,
Agreed.
Even Mermaid sighs over Connery who is surely her grandfathers age.

Aunty,
I love Connery even when I don't like the movie.
(I did like Entrapment)
I even liked him old, sick and agoraphobic in Finding Forrester.

Arthur won my heart at 12 and has yet to relinquish his hold.

Troll,
Your comment actually did make me laugh aloud. Very old school... isn't Merlin ageless? :-)

Moi,
The Merlin trilogy from Mary Stewart still rank among my all time favorites. I once yearned for the trilogy movies but ultimately realized they could never be as fine as the visions in my head, created by Stewart's genius.

A few years back I gave Mermaid the trilogy, I am not sure she has even read them. She never mentioned them again so it is doubtful.

Buzz,
It is a fine concept. Maybe even especially suitable for a Scout leader! I adopted this creed when I applied to Art School and was accepted. I was determined to fight for and protect what I could become.

Sigh.
It is tragic to think honor, goodness and, even just noble striving, is lost in America today.

The Mary Stewart Merlin books are some of my all time favorite reading.

Have you read The Mists of Avalon? Or "The Sword at Sunset" by Rosemary Sutcliffe?

I've been an Arthur/Merlin fan since before I can remember. Was I there? Maybe.

And Sean Connery, well. I may be a lesbian but I'm not dead!

@ Grumpy Granny: I have a first edition Sutcliff Sword at Sunset (the one with that terrific cover) and I can't believe I have never cracked it. Is it good?

First off I would like to say excellent blog! I had a quick question which I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I've had a
tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out there.
I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10
to 15 minutes are generally wasted just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or hints? Kudos!
